The piece reports on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster on 27 November, where leading UK scientists warned MPs, peers, business leaders and the media about the existential threat of climate breakdown and the need for a war-time mobilisation.
On the surface, the event looks impressive. Underneath, it is simply the same information-led method we have seen for years — a ritual rather than a rupture.
Talking to the liberal elite about “the science” has failed for decades. Emissions still rise. Ecosystems still collapse. The political class still looks away.
- A sociologist explaining why elites never reform themselves.

- A political scientist explaining complicity and treason.
This is not a moral claim. It is a sociological one. Movements are built by minorities willing to act while the majority hesitates.
Words without sacrifice signal that nothing is truly at stake. Behaviour teaches urgency — not rhetoric.
