On XR Global Support: Admissions, Defamation, Disinformation and the Need for Reform

XR “Global Support” (GS) recently published an official statement about me on rebellion.global. I’m pleased GS admits it’s not XR HQ, only offers “support,” and agrees I am not anti-Semitic. This allows progress and moves the discussion away from personal accusations. My goal is to highlight the risks of toxic culture in movement building, an issue needing urgent reform.

Despite requesting open dialogue and transparency, I have not received a reply nor seen authors reveal their identities. While self-selected XR groups can bar members, the way it has been done here feels damaging and risks undermining XR’s open culture. Actions by anonymous committees can set dangerous precedents in movements.

I reject any further defamation and misrepresentation, including accusations of intending to create a scandal or promoting violence, all taken out of context. GS published confidential correspondence which amounted to internal deliberation, not sabotage. Actions like these can shift attention away from the urgent climate crisis that should be our shared focus.

Media teams should counter propaganda, not amplify it. When misinformation isn’t challenged, it harms activists. See linked interview for context about my statements.

This dispute with GS was not of my initiation; their statements prompted my defense. Let this episode remind movements and networks how closed cultures, lacking accountable leadership and operating constitutions, risk corruption and abuse. GS’s lack of constitution means XR’s self-organized systems cannot deal fairly with internal issues, fueling smear campaigns and ostracism. I’ve advocated for constitutional processes to prevent power abuses and protect fairness.

I will not waste energy on a hunger strike to request a meeting with unaccountable individuals. Instead, I propose GS bar me only through an open constitutional process. I challenge GS to draft a constitution with transparent procedures for member protection and am willing to help test it myself, even if it means the instigators must finally reveal themselves. I look forward to an opportunity for reconciliation. Anyone can help transform GS and XR into more open, accountable, and supportive cultures.

My commitment is to support XR groups practically and openly. If GS fails to create a constitution, it proves the group is governed by faceless actors, lacking courage and integrity. As Gandhi said, “nonviolence is not for cowards.” GS—my door is always open for a chat. Let a hundred flowers bloom! See you on the streets.
